Are You a Warm or a Cool?
The first step is to determine what your skin tone is in the first place. If you are African, Indian, or another person of color then you likely have a warm skin tone. If you are white and are more likely to tan than burn, then you are likely a person with a warm skin tone. If you are a person who experiences a sunburn just about any time you go out into the sun, then you are a cool skin tone. If you are still not sure, check your wrists. If the veins are purple or blue you are cool, if they are green then you are warm.
There is a Gold for Everyone
If you have a warm skin tone then it is likely you will look best with yellow gold. The lovely hues complement your skin. We recommend pieces with darker jewels, like rubies or garnets, or classic diamonds, for the most flattering look.
If you have a cool skin tone, do not despair – you can still choose gold. However, we recommend a white gold option that will go best with your skin tone. It will flatter the hues of your skin that are bluish and pinkish. Consider white gold pieces with blue or purple gems like turquoise. We recommend skipping anything that has a yellow undertone.
There Are Neutral Options
If you are purchasing jewelry for someone else and are not sure where they fit into the spectrum, or if you are buying it for yourself and are not sure where you fit in, then you will be glad to know that there are a few options that work for everyone. For example, rose gold can look great with both warm and cool skin tones.
Two-tone gold pieces can work with all skin tones as well. Oxidized silver works for all skin tones too, though those with warmer skin tones may prefer highly oxidized versus lightly oxidized.
No matter which option you are shopping for there is good news: South Bay Jewelry & Loan has you covered. Come by to see for yourself or give us a call if you are curious about a particular piece we may have.
