At South Bay Jewelry & Loan we are proud to offer a wide range of products for our clients. We also buy many different products. When clients have questions, they often wonder why things are priced the way they are. Further, they wonder why something we have for sale might be a different price than another pawn shop. There are actually very good reasons for this – keep reading to find out what they are. If you have additional questions, contact us at (310) 371-4571 for help.
Some Pawn Shops Specialize
You will find plenty of pawnshops that offer a wide range of products for sale. Then you will find pawn shops that specialize in one particular item, such as electronics or watches. When a pawn shop has fewer of an item, it is likely that the price will be lower than a pawnshop that has more of them. Why? Because people don’t necessarily go to that shop for that thing.
Let us consider an example. If a pawnshop specializes in used laptops, it is likely that most people would not think to shop there for a diamond bracelet. However, they might have gotten a good deal on a few bracelets and offer them for sale. They know that fewer people who are interested in bracelets come through their doors, and so they sell them for less.
Price is Subjective
The truth is that many of the items sold at pawn shops have subjective prices. After all, a watch has no inherent value – it is simply worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Someone behind the counter might like a piece more than others, and therefore offer it at a higher price. Likewise, they might find a certain style undesirable and want it out of the store, thereby selling it for less.
Not Everyone Who Buys or Sells is Experienced
One of the biggest factors comes down to home much experience the buyer has and how much experience the person pricing the items has. There are actually many factors that go into an accurate appraisal, including brand, rarity, condition, and material. A person new to the world of working at a pawn shop might not realize that a gold watch is fake and price it much higher than an experienced pawnshop worker would.
